ProfitTap is free to install. There is no monthly fee, no plans and no tiers. We earn 3% of the sales ProfitTap generates for you — and nothing at all on everything else your store sells. If it never sells anything, you never pay anything.

That is the whole model. The rest of this page is the mechanics behind it, because a fee you cannot predict is not really a fee you agreed to.

What the 3% is calculated on

Only on the units our banner put in the cart. When a shopper taps the recommendation, that is one unit; we value it at the line's per-unit price in your store's own selling currency, after any discount and before tax, and take 3% of that.

When it is charged

Not when the order is paid. Thirty days after the sale, once the return window has passed. That delay exists for one reason: to make sure we never charge you a commission on a sale that came back.

Thirty days matches a common return window. If yours is longer, this is the part of the model that will not line up with it — see the next section for exactly what happens then.

Refunds

What happens What you are charged
The order is fully refunded or cancelled within the 30 days Nothing. The commission is settled at zero and never sent to Shopify
Part of it is refunded within the 30 days 3% of what you actually kept. The refunded amount comes off the base first
We cannot read the refund state with certainty — deleted variant, purged order, a refund with no line items Nothing. When in doubt, you keep the money. We do not guess
That uncertainty never clears, 55 days after the sale Nothing. The commission is written off for good
The refund happens after the 30 days, once the commission has been charged The commission stands. A charge reported to Shopify cannot be undone

That last row is the honest edge of the model, so it is stated plainly rather than buried: once a commission has been charged, it is final.

A worked example

A shopper is on a product page. Our banner recommends a €39.00 accessory and they tap it. The order is paid.

Sale ProfitTap generated €39.00
Our fee, 3% €1.17
You keep €37.83

The €1.17 appears on your Shopify bill 30 days later, not now.

If the shopper returns half of it — €19.50 refunded within those 30 days — the base drops to €19.50 and the fee becomes €0.59: 3% of what you kept, rounded to the cent. If they return all of it, the fee is €0.00.

These are illustrative figures, not a projection. We make no claim about how much any store will sell.

Your first 30 days are free

Every sale ProfitTap generates during your 30-day free trial is free — permanently. We never go back and bill for them later.

The monthly safety limit

Shopify requires a ceiling on what an app can charge in a billing cycle, and you approve it on Shopify's own screen before anything can ever be billed. Ours defaults to €600 a month (the equivalent in your billing currency if you sell in another).

It is not a price. It is the maximum we are allowed to charge, and reaching it would mean ProfitTap had generated roughly €20,000 of attributed sales in a single cycle.

If you ever did reach it, the banner pauses until your next billing cycle or until you approve a higher limit — one click, and it is back. Nothing is deleted: your rules, your settings and every sale already generated stay exactly as they were. We warn you at 80% so it does not take you by surprise, and raising the limit always requires your own approval in Shopify. There is no ceiling on the ceiling that we control: you are the ceiling.

Who actually charges you

Shopify does. ProfitTap never touches your card and never sees it. Each commission is reported to Shopify as a usage charge on the app subscription you approved, and it appears on your normal Shopify bill alongside everything else.

The same sale can never be charged twice: each charge is keyed to the attribution event, so a retry or a repeated notification from Shopify cannot double-bill you.

If you sell in another currency

Commissions are charged in your Shopify billing currency. When your sale was in a different one, we convert it using the European Central Bank's official daily reference rate, from the ECB's own public archive.

Which day's rate? The one from the day the commission is charged — 30 days after the sale — not the day of the sale. The sale itself is frozen the moment it happens: we record its value in your selling currency and that figure never changes, so the 3% is always 3% of what you actually earned that day. Only the conversion into your billing currency uses a later rate, because that is the day the money actually moves. If you sell and bill in the same currency, none of this applies to you.

We apply a 1% margin, and it runs against us, not you. We convert at the ECB fixing minus 1% and round down, so the amount charged is always slightly below the exact cross rate. On a 3% fee that margin costs us about 0.03% of the sale. We would rather be indisputably a little under than occasionally a cent over.

Your Shopify invoice line shows the source, the fixing date and the reference cross rate, so you can check any charge against the ECB's published archive. That printed rate is the reference figure: because of the margin above, recalculating with it gives you a slightly higher number than we actually charged.

If you sell in a currency Shopify cannot bill in and the ECB does not publish (Argentine peso and Colombian peso, for instance), the commission is simply not charged. It waits, unbilled, until that currency becomes convertible.

Turning the commission off

You can do it yourself from the app panel — one button plus a confirmation. No email, no support ticket, no waiting.

Uninstalling the app also stops all billing.

What this does not include

Free to install. No monthly fee. You pay 3% only on the sales ProfitTap generates for you — and nothing on the rest of the order.
